Bon Appetit magazine says, "The Flagler Grill in Stuart, Florida, is worth the detour, reports food writer Kathryn Matthews. Its owners, Paul and Linda Daly, bought the restaurant in 1997, three hours after learning it was for sale. "Stuart is what Palm Beach was like in the 1950's," Paul says, "a wealthy community with little in the way of good restaurants. We are one of the first." The couple expanded and renovated the 1920's building, putting in an antique bar, a black-and-white checkered floor, wood trim and local artwork. Meat is prime cut, aged then grilled with numerous sauce choices. Only fresh fish is served, caught locally and prepared to perfection. The desserts are made fresh daily. A bonus: The grill is next to the restored art deco Lyric Theater, a national historic landmark. "Dinner and a show anyone?"

Wine Spectator's annual dining guide lists Flagler Grill as one of the best restaurants for wine lovers,1999 through 2006. Wine Spectator magazine has honored a very special breed of restaurant, those that give wine a leading role in the dining experience through their wine lists.

Despite its relative youth and northerly location in downtown Stuart, this "well-run" Floridian-influenced Traditional American has quickly become "a perennial favorite" for "excellent" oversized steaks and chops. "good seafood" and a stellar wine list in a New York-style, black-and-white room; fine service helps make it a prime choice before a show at the Lyric Theater.
